HIC Test – Crack Evaluation – Element Amsterdam

The final stage of the HIC test was witnessed in which the operator of the lab was scanning the prepared samples for any cracks. The visual inspection under the microscope (x100) was carried out for around 2 hours. The samples were prepared in advance. All the requirements for sample preparation (i.e. PH, oxygen level) met the NACE TM0284-2016. The visual inspection of the samples under the microscope was witnessed together with operator. The whole surface of all the samples were inspected and scanned carefully by the operator. According to the test, CLR (Crack length Ratio)<15%, CTR (Crack Thickness Ratio)<5% and CSR (Crack Thickness Ratio)<2% crack is allowed. However, only one small crack close to the edge was found in only one of the spicemens. According to the test, cracks which has the distance less than 1mm from the edge are acceptable.
